PostSubject: Developer/Webmaster Rules!   Sat Sep 06, 2008 4:20 am

These are the current Developer rules, but be sure to check back every once in a while as they will be updated and changed to meet the needs of the server.

1. Permissions and powers

a. Once you are recruited as a developer you are given “Trial developer” status, which means that you have limited commands and permissions which can last anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on how well
you do and your behavior. If you do not gain full developer status after 4 weeks your “Trial developer” status will be removed and your account will be converted back into a normal player account and you will have to apply again to get another chance to be a developer.

b. When you start as a “Trial developer” you will be watched from time to time by other staff members to see how you are coming along and if you are following the rules as well as to check your progress.

c. As a “Trial developer” you will have full access only on the developer realm, and if you do not follow the rules you will be instantly removed.

2. Projects and ideas

d. If you have a new project in mind that you would like to add to the server post it under the “Quick approval” section located under the “Staff” section.

e. Wait until it is approved by Booyah.

f. Once it is approved make a new topic under “Server Development” located under the “Development” section of the forums with the name of your project as the title, and also try to include as much information as you can about exactly what you plan on doing as to avoid doing something that wasn’t allowed and having to go back to fix it.

g. Update your post as often as you can, the purpose of the post is to both keep staff updated on what you are doing and what progress you are making as well as to keep you, the developer, on track when building your project.

3. The live server and you

a. Whenever you are on the live server keep in mind that you are a Developer and not a Game Master, and although you are allowed to help players and answer their questions, it is not your main job on the server to do so.

b. If you are on the live server and no Game masters are around you may help the players if it is within your power, please keep in mind you do not have .additem or .learn, but you can still help players if they get stuck or are having other character issues. Also as a side note, you may port players, but only if they are stuck - you are not a mode of transportation.

c. You do not get .additem and .learn on the live server as to help avoid some abuse that we have encountered in the past from some of the staff, but if you need anything you can contact either Runiker, or myself, with anything you may need on the live server.

d. Please be friendly to all players you may encounter, and if players are begging you for items and such you can warn them that it isn’t allowed, but try saying it in a nice way – and if that does not work you may kick them from the server, but you must put “Begging” as the reason for the kick.

e. If you are online and you encounter a hacker or exploiter, you may also kick them, but with speed hackers it is often best to .paralyze them and telling them that speed hacking is not allowed on the server and after three warning they will be banned before you kick them.

4. Item and Mob making

a. Do not make any overpowered or “GM” gear (No unrealistic stats)

b. When you make an item please put your name in the name2 spot on the item so we will know who made it.

c. Don’t delete anything from the database without first asking a high-ranking staff member or before making a topic on the forums under the “Quick approval” section.

d. Do not spawn anything unless approved by a high-ranking staff member or before making a topic on the forums under the “Quick approval” section.

e. Do not try to sneak in any custom items into the loot tables or vendors.

f. Breaking any of these rules may result in your developer status being taken away.

5. Activity and termination

a. If you know you will be inactive for a few days please make a post on the forums so that we know not to terminate your account after a five-day inactive period.

b. One week without a project or something to work on will also lead to termination unless you are inactive and you posted about it as stated above.

c. We are a team, please be considerate to all staff and players on the server, failure to do so may result in termination.

6. Editing

a. Please do not change or edit work from other developers without asking permission to do so.

b. Once you talk to whoever owns the current work and they give you permission to do so then you may edit the work.

These rules have been reviewed and accepted by the staff and failure to adhere to these rules will result in a ban.
Also note that although you are a developer you are still a player and you still have your rules to follow, and furthermore, you are at the will of the staff meaning you can lose your rank with or without warning as deemed necessary by the Forgotten-WoW Team!
